Chad Heiny is the Assistant Director of Bands and Percussion Specialist at both Kiski Area High School and Kiski Area Intermediate School in Vandergrift, PA. His teaching responsibilities include directing the Kiski Area High School Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble and Cavalier Percussion Group, while co-teaching the Jazz Ensemble "B", Advanced Repertoire course, Seventh Grade Band and Eighth Grade Band. He has been both Assistant Director and Percussion Arranger of the acclaimed Kiski Area High School Marching Band since 2006.
Chad earned a Bachelor’s Degree in both Music Education and Music Performance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s Degree in Music Performance from Louisiana State University. His teachers include Dr. Gary Olmstead, Dr. Brett Dietz, Dr. Jack Stamp and Mr. Frank Wickes.
Since 2003, Chad has been the front ensemble arranger or coordinator for several DCI Finalist Drum and Bugle Corps. These ensembles include the Spirit of Atlanta (2010-2013), the Boston Crusaders (2009-2010) and the Glassmen (2003-2007). He has been the battery arranger and instructor for the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) Marching Band since 2012 and was recently named percussion composer of the Pittsburgh Steeline. Chad also has two works published for percussion ensemble by Tapspace Publications.
In the fall, winter and early spring months, Chad is a marching arts adjudicator for several circuits or associations nationwide. Most recently, he was added to the judge roster of Winter Guard International (WGI).
Chad is a proud endorser of Innovative Percussion, Meinl Percussion, and Remo Drumheads. He resides in West Leechburg, PA with his wife Nichole, son Christopher and their dog Cailey.
